What is actually being removed?
Most Zalgo text is not an image and does not require a special font. It usually consists of ordinary characters followed by Unicode combining marks. A browser or app draws those marks around the preceding character, which creates the distorted appearance.
For example, a short word may still contain the letters hello, but each letter has one or more combining marks attached. Removing those marks reveals the underlying word.
When the cleaned result may not match the original
A remover can reliably strip combining marks, but it cannot reconstruct information that was changed before the text was pasted. Check the result carefully when:
- letters were replaced rather than decorated;
- intentional accents are important to the language;
- invisible spacing or direction characters are present;
- the text was already corrupted by another app.
Because accents can also use combining marks, review names and words in languages that depend on diacritics. The tool favors a plain-text result.
